A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I have been writing for most of my life. In elementary school, I wrote plays, historical performances, autobiographies the teachers found amusing, and in the sixth grade, I had my own creative writing page in every issue of the school newspaper. No else else had that, so I was mighty proud. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a writer.
In high school, my parents made me take modeling classes which I hated. But the instructor knew how much I hated them, so rather than model, she had me write the commentaries for all of our fashion shows. I also took my first creative writing classes. To my amazement, I always received positive and encouraging feedback. As a high school student, I dreamed of becoming a writer. In college, I wrote a lot of poetry, mainly to cope with the mess I was making of my life as I tried to figure out the newly developing exercising of my independence. By my senior year, I had gathered enough courage to submit a few pieces of my poetry to the annual school literary publication. Several pieces were chosen. Again, I felt proud. As a college student, I dreamed of becoming a writer. Despite my best intentions, the day came when I found that I had completely forgotten about my dream to write. Life got in the way. There even came that time they call the dark night of the soul, when I realized I no longer had any dreams, nor did I remember how to build any. Yet, I knew I would need some dreams in order to survive. I dreamed of becoming a writer. Age-wise, I found myself on the downside of life. So I asked myself just exactly when it was that I planned on pursuing my dream of becoming a writer. NOW was the only answer I could accept. Then I read an article by Tama J. Kieves who informed me that I had not chosen my dreams, they had chosen me. With that different spin on the picture, I decided to act on my dream of becoming a writer. My first collection of poetry, REBEL HEART, has just been published, and I am working on my next collection of poetry, a documentary, and my first novel, among various other pieces. I am living my dream now. |
